Fidelity is SSIM vs. the original (1.000 = identical). Measured on real photos with 4:2:0 chroma — the same encoding this tool uses. Absolute sizes scale with resolution.
Quality 100 is a trap
Jumping 90→100 roughly triples the file for a fidelity gain almost no one can see.
85–92 is the sweet spot
Near-indistinguishable from the original at about a third of the maximum size.
Expect ~2.5–3.5 MB
For a typical 12 MP phone photo saved as a high-quality JPG.
My format isn't accepted (TIFF, RAW, SVG, PSD, PDF)
Why it happens
Those need a specialist decoder the all-in-one tool doesn't load.
The fix
Use the dedicated converter for that format (linked above) — each one uses the correct decoder for reliable results.
My animated GIF became a single image
Why it happens
JPG can't store animation, so only the first frame is kept.
The fix
That's expected. Keep it as GIF or convert to MP4 if you need the motion.
A transparent PNG/GIF got a white background
Why it happens
JPG has no transparency, so the alpha was filled with the default white.
The fix
Set the fill color in the tool to match your destination, or keep the image as PNG.
