iPhone photos are HEIC, which is more efficient than JPG — so the JPG you export is usually a bit larger. Here's the size/quality tradeoff we measured with this tool's exact encoding. For phone photos, quality 90 is the sweet spot: indistinguishable from the original at about a third of a maxed-out export.

Fidelity is SSIM vs. the original (1.000 = identical). Measured on real photos with 4:2:0 chroma — the same encoding this tool uses. Absolute sizes scale with resolution.
Quality 100 is a trap
Jumping 90→100 roughly triples the file for a fidelity gain almost no one can see.
85–92 is the sweet spot
Near-indistinguishable from the original at about a third of the maximum size.
Expect ~2.5–3.5 MB

The renamed .jpg still won't open on Windows
Why it happens
Some tools just change the extension without decoding the HEVC image inside, so it's still HEIC data.
The fix
This converter genuinely decodes and re-encodes real JPEG bytes, so the file opens in Photos, Paint, and Office with nothing extra installed.
Photos are rotated 90°
Why it happens
The iPhone's EXIF orientation flag was ignored by whatever opened the file.
The fix
The converter applies the orientation before encoding, so the JPG is already the right way up.
My Live Photo lost its motion
Why it happens
The moving part of a Live Photo is a separate video file; a JPG can only hold the still frame.
The fix
Expected — you get the still image. Keep the original in Photos if you want to preserve the Live Photo.
