Both .jpeg and .jpg files are identical in format. The difference is purely historical: early Windows operating systems (like MS-DOS and early versions of Windows) enforced a 3-character limit on file extensions, so "jpeg" became "jpg". Mac and Linux allowed longer extensions, so .jpeg remained common there.
Today, all modern operating systems handle both extensions identically. You can rename a .jpeg to .jpg (or vice versa) without any conversion process — but our tool makes it quick and easy when you need to batch convert many files.
Everything you need to know
There is no difference. JPEG and JPG are the exact same image format. "JPEG" is the full name (Joint Photographic Experts Group) and ".jpg" is the shortened file extension used on Windows. Converting between them changes only the file extension — no pixels, no quality, and no data are modified.
