When you right-click and save an image from a web browser, some browsers detect the JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) specification in the file header and automatically use .jfif as the extension instead of .jpg.
This commonly happens in Microsoft Edge (legacy) and Internet Explorer. The image itself is identical to a JPG file — only the extension differs.
Quick fix: Simply rename the file from .jfif to .jpg and most apps will open it. Our converter does this automatically and also allows batch conversion of multiple files.
Everything you need to know
JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a specific implementation of the JPEG standard — essentially the same as JPG but with a standardized file structure for cross-platform interchange. JFIF files use the .jfif extension and are technically identical to .jpg files in terms of image data.
